4 The Dataset Canvas provides tools to view and interact with individual Datasets.  To launch the Dataset Canvas,** **click **Datasets **from the VRE top main menu to open the Datasets landing page, then click on one of your Datasets**.**

9 1. **Basic properties and functions**
10 1*. Identifying information such as title, code, created date, etc., are displayed in the top left corner.
11 1*. The number and size of the files in the Dataset are displayed in the top right corner.
12 1*. Click **Versions** to open a panel that displays the version history of the Dataset with the option to download any released version. 13 1*. Click the **Download** icon [[image:Main.user_guide.Working with Datasets.Data Explorer.WebHome@Download-icon.png||height="14" width="15"]] to download a .zip snapshot of the Dataset in its current state.

15 1. The **menu bar **tabs provide access to the different functions of the Dataset Canvas:

The **Home** tab displays information about your Dataset, including the metadata and tags you provided upon [[Dataset Creation>>Dataset Creation]].  Dataset information, except //Dataset Code//, can be edited in the [[Metadata>>doc:Main.user_guide.Working with Datasets.Metadata Schemas.WebHome]] tab. 
17 1*. The **Explorer** tab provides tools to organize your Dataset and validate its structure against supported standard specifications such as Brain Imaging Data Structure (BIDS). 18 1*. The **Metadata **tab provides tools to edit Dataset metadata and allows you to create your own custom metadata schema.  See [[Annotations and Metadata Schemas>>doc:Main.user_guide.Working with Datasets.Metadata Schemas.WebHome]] for more information. 
19 1*. The **Activity** tab displays the history of changes made to your Dataset.  See [[Activity Stream>>doc:Main.user_guide.Working with Datasets.Data Explorer.WebHome]] for more information.

21 1. The **Dataset Status** panel (top right corner) displays Dataset Status activity from your current session, including import, move, rename and delete actions. This session information is cleared after you log out of the VRE.
