2 A **Project** is a data storage container that holds all of the information, data, and pipeline configurations relating to a Principal Investigators’ research project. Projects in the VRE can only be created by Platform Administrators.

5 Researchers interested in using the VRE should contact the VRE Support Team at __[[vre-support@charite.de>>path:mailto:vre-support@charite.de]]__ to discuss the application process and next steps. As the [[Data Controller>>doc:Main.Privacy and Data Governance.General Terms of Use.WebHome]], the Principal Investigator of each research project is expected to obtain all necessary data-sharing agreements, research ethics approvals, and institutional data protection office endorsements to protect the rights of the data subjects before using the VRE.

7 After these requirements have been met and the project is approved by the Charité, the VRE administrative team will initiate the Project in the VRE, invite the first[[ Project Member>>doc:Main.user_guide.Managing User Accounts.User Roles.WebHome]], and grant them the role of Project Administrator. The Project Administrator can then invite additional members of their research team to collaborate in the VRE Project.
